What Does IP Protection Mean
IP Protection
IP (1st digit) (2nd digit).
The first digit defines protection against solid objects.
0 No protection. (No protection).
1 Protection against solid objects larger than 50mm.
2 Protection against solid objects larger than 12mm.
3 Protection against solid objects larger than 2.5mm.
4 Protection against solid objects larger than 1.0mm.
5 Protection against dust. (Dust entry is not completely prevented, but it does not enter in harmful quantities).
6 Dust-tight.
The second digit defines protection against liquids.
0 No protection. (No protection).
1 Protection against vertically falling water drops.
2 Protection against water drops at an angle of 15°.
3 Protection against sprayed water at an angle of 60°.
4 Protection against splashing water.
5 Protection against water jets from a hose from any direction.
6 Protection against powerful water jets.
7 Protection against immersion in water. (Under specified pressure and time conditions).
8 Protection against continuous submersion in water. (Under conditions specified by the manufacturer).
